 Why should I book my vacation package with American Airlines?


American Airlines Vacations™ offers travelers private, unpublished rates to destinations around the world. Get our best rates and savings on flights, hotels, cars and more when you book your vacation together. Customize your dream vacation package and add rental cars, transfers, sightseeing and activities. You can also pay for any vacation package using a combination of AAdvantage® miles and cash.

Plus, as a member of the AAdvantage® program, you'll earn miles and Loyalty Points when you book with American Airlines Vacations™.

 How do I change or cancel my vacation package?


If you booked with cash (without using miles), you can cancel your trip online by:

  •   Visiting the 'Your Trips' section on American Airlines Vacations℠ Homepage, entering your reservation number and last name.
      Once your trip details open, navigate to the 'Trip Changes' tab and select 'Cancel Booking'.
  •   Or clicking on the 'Booking Number' in your confirmation email
  •   Or clicking the 'Manage My Booking' button on your booking confirmation page


There may be a fee to cancel your package.

 Who can book with American Airlines Vacations™?


Vacation packages booked through American Airlines Vacations™ (aavacations.com) may only be booked from the U.S. for travel originating in the U.S.


 How do I add an infant (child under 2 years) to my trip?


For new vacation package bookings on or after April 15, 2025, you can add an infant (under 2 years old) when you book your trip on aavacations.com. If you need to add an infant to an existing booking or make any modifications, please contact us.

Note: If the child turns 2 by the end of the trip, 'age 2' needs to be selected instead of '<2' to book or they can call reservations for help.

Call American Airlines Vacations™ Reservations for help booking a trip to more than one destination. Vacation packages with more than one destination can't be booked online.

 What is Pre-Departure Protection?


Pre-Departure Protection (PDP) will protect you if your plans change. PDP covers revision fees and cancellations, for any reason, up until scheduled departure time. Restrictions may apply.

 What are preferred hotels and why should I book them?


Preferred hotels are resorts that show their complete room availability on aavacations.com. We have strong relationships with each resort, and we can contact them for you about any problems during your stay.


Earn miles and Loyalty Points


 How do I earn miles?


To earn miles on a vacation package, add AAdvantage® numbers of all passengers to the booking. Every passenger included on flights and hotels will earn miles and Loyalty Points.

For every dollar spent on the total package value (excluding taxes, fees, and mileage redemption):

  • AAdvantage® members earn 1 mile and 1 Loyalty Point
  • AAdvantage® status members earn 5 miles and 5 Loyalty Points

The number of miles you earn will be based on the AAdvantage® member with the highest status, multiplied by the total package value (excluding taxes, fees, and mileage redemption), and divided by the number of passengers on the booking. Each traveler with their AAdvantage® number included in the booking will earn their portion of the AAdvantage® miles.

Keep in mind:

  • Passengers who are only included in activities do not earn miles or Loyalty Points
  • Certain airfares are not eligible to earn miles
  • We reserve the right to change our mileage accrual plan at any time



 When are miles posted to my account?


Miles will be posted to your account within 2 weeks after travel is complete, with the transaction date reflecting your departure or check-in date.

Soon after traveling, your account may show that you earned 0 miles for your flight. Keep in mind this is not the final amount you'll earn from your vacation package.


 Can I earn on a vacation package booked using miles?


No, you can't earn miles on a vacation package booked using miles. If you pay using a combination of miles and cash, you'll earn miles on the cash portion of your booking.


 How do I add my AAdvantage® number to my trip?


To earn AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points, you must add your AAdvantage® number at the time of booking.

 Does every passenger on the booking need to be an AAdvantage® member?


While not required, to avoid missing out on miles, we suggest including each traveler's AAdvantage® number.


 How do I become an AAdvantage® member?


You can join the AAdvantage® program for free online.

Payment


 What forms of payment can I use?


Credit cards with billing addresses within the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands are accepted forms of payment. We accept:

  • American Express®
  • Discover®
  • MasterCard®
  • VISA®

You can also use miles or a combination of miles and your card to pay for your vacation package.


 How do I book with miles or a combination of miles and cash?


On the checkout page, use the slider to select the number of miles you want to redeem. You must use at least 1,000 miles.


 Can I book a vacation package with miles using multiple AAdvantage® accounts?


No, you can only redeem miles from one AAdvantage® account.


 Can I redeem a Travel Voucher for a vacation package?


You can use a Travel Vouchers to pay for your American Airlines flight. Travel Vouchers can't be used for hotels, rental cars, transfers, activities or insurance.

 What is Flex Pay?


Flex Pay is our service provider for monthly payment options. You can book travel now and pay for your vacation package in monthly installments through an Flex Pay loan.

 How do I get a refund if I paid with Flex Pay?


We'll issue the refund to your original payment method, which is Flex Pay. Flex Pay will then apply the refund amount to your loan balance.
